well, can you blame them?
It goes without saying that the chicks dig Finn (just look at some of the photos of him with his pals). But it doesn't hurt to advertise, (advertisement courtesy Auntie J).This weekend, Finn and I got to take advantage of the great weather and see two of his favorite adult chicks. He and I went strolling through Golden Gate Park Saturday with Auntie Jenn, and today, hiking around Lafayette Reservoir with Auntie Leesh.

Happy Thanksgiving!
From the Hazen Family! So very much to be thankful for this year.In family news, I got interviewed by Redbook about budgeting with a new baby, and this is the photo they will be running. Look for it in the February issue (since it's Redbook, does that mean they will automatically have Kelly Ripa on the cover?). I really don't remember exactly what I told them, so the article will be a surprise to me. I vaguely remember mentioning that Shawn refused to greenlight the purchase of a Bugaboo stroller ($750, but oh-so fashionable!), which will sound very shallow when, in the next breath, I state that I'm afraid that with childcare costs and my part-time salary, we will be cutting out all luxuries except Tivo (of course!) and batteries for Finn's swing.

He's Warmin' Up to Her
Yesterday morning, when Lena was asked what happens on Thanksgiving, she reportedly responded "Lisa and Baby Finn come over". And it appears that Finn is getting over his fear of girls, too...Posted by shawn at 10:11 AM | Comments (0)

calling all "Daily Show" fans...
Is it me, or does Finn look like Rob Corrdry's lovechild? Not to worry--I'm a huge fan, but not that big of a fan.Posted by lisa at 08:12 PM | Comments (0)
upside-down
Here's Finn on the quilt that Auntie Keeks and Uncle Bryan sent him. Verrrry cute. One of Finn's favorite activities is laying down, looking up at you and chattling away.Posted by lisa at 07:50 PM | Comments (0)

ol' blue eyes
Check out the peepers on this kid. I'm really hoping they stay this blue. It has been crazy warm here the past week--this is us leaving to take Santos for an afternoon walk.In other Finn news, I'm happy to announce that the boy slept for seven straight hours for the first time Friday night. (From 6pm to 1am, to be exact.) Upon waking, he chugged down a bottle and went back to sleep for another three and a half hours. This is major news, as sleeping has not been one of Finn's strong suits, to put it lightly. This has been tough for us to understand since if there was such a thing as sleeping touraments, Shawn and I would be a serious contenders. Here's hoping for another long stretch and a possible sleeping medal in this kid's future.

Finn at 10 weeks (double digits!)
On Monday, Finn had his two-month checkup. Besides getting four (!!!) shots that practically made me cry, we got all sorts of interesting statistics on how he's growing. He now weighs a healthy 12 lbs., 9 oz. (putting him in the 65th percentile) and is 25 inches "tall," putting him in the 98th percentile for height. And he has the Hazens to thank for his height, as the Baggermen are not exactly known for their stature. When the doctor asked me if he's smiling yet, I told him that he's so far beyond smiling that he actually flirts with anyone who will make eye contact with him. I distinctly heard a giggle this week, and he now has control over his hands. Thumbsucking can't be far off. And don't get me started on his exceptional neck control.
To calm him through his afternoon fussy time, I've been experimenting with a variety of methods. Today, I broke out the iPod playlist* that I listened to constantly when I was pregnant ( titled "gestational jams") to see if this would soothe the savage beast. And to my surprise, he seems to have an instinctual affection for old school rap (Run DMC), talented Scientologists (Beck), and moody alt-rock (Bright Eyes). That second photo is him listening intently to The White Stripes' "My Doorbell." Doesn't it look like he's trying to remember where he heard that song before?
*In the interest of full disclosure, I should probably admit there is some Justin Timberlake and "Hollaback Girl" on there, too.

Dad and Paula's visit
Sorry for the lag in postings, Finnatics, but Dad and Paula had been visiting, and with all the spoiling, there wasn't much time for posting. Before they came, I warned them that he had been quite fussy these days, what with the constant eating and the incessant tooting. But to show that he is always full of surprises, he was pretty much an absolute angel for them. Shawn and I even got two nights out in a row while they babysat. A favorite mental snapshot is my Dad watching the Steelers with Finn on his lap and Santos curled up next to him, drinking a beer. As Paula said, "Everyone's groovin' on Grandpa."Posted by lisa at 06:48 PM | Comments (0)

the hungriest baby on the block
See that little glimmer in his eye? No doubt he's thinking about his next meal. There are not enough hours in the day to feed this hungry little fellow. We're supplementing nursing with formula now, which he sucks right down and is hungry for more in another hour or so. And while he's tall, he's not one of those really chubby babies--we're guessing he's about 12.5 lbs now, which is on-target for babies his age who don't eat 10 times a day. The pediatrician thinks he has high metabolism. I think this boy has a future in competitive eating. I can't imagine our grocery bills when he's a teenager.

girls! girls! girls!
Finn and I went over to Auntie Brenda's house in the city this weekend to eat pizza (mama) and meet the girls (Finn). As if Phoebe and Lena weren't enough, now Finn is charming DJ and Ann's twins, Kate and Emma (top) and chilling with Calla and Jane's little girl, Lulu (below).Posted by lisa at 01:07 PM | Comments (0)

That's One Smart Cookie
To be fair, it's really not much of a "surprise" anymore. The child's pooping aptitude is something most six-month-olds would aspire to. (Not to brag or anything.)Thanks to Jenni for the adorable onesie!

Mood Swings
Sad one second, happy the next. It's hard to anticipate Finn's next mood. At least happy is one of them...

the finn hazen comedy show
This kid is really starting to show his personality. When my mom's group met yesterday, he laid in the middle on a blanket and piped up (loudly!) with laughter, "ooooos" and "aaa-gawwwws" as we discussed the various adjustments of new motherhood. The boy's seen it--he can relate. He really gets cut up when you make funny faces at him, and earnestly tries to engage you in what appears to him to be the most hilarious stories from his bouncy seat.
Here is a slideshow of a typical comedy routine by Finn. The boy just may have his father's gift for comedy.

puppy love
Finn loves to take in the world, stargazer style, from the vantage point of his moo cow blanket (a gift from Auntie Court). He coos when he looks in the mirror (even he thinks he's adorable!), when his favorite toy hangs overhead, or when that mysterious marauding beast that roams our house (Santos) comes to kiss his feet. And Santie is warming up to Finn, too. On a walk today, when a dog and its owner approached the stroller, Santos got inbetween the stroller and the dog, growling until it left. Santie walked between me and the stroller for the duration of the walk, at one point, looking up at me as if to say, "Listen, he may make a lot of noise, and he may take a lot of my attention. But this is my baby, too."
