everyone into the pool
Finn is still too small for the kiddie pool, but this time next summer, I bet he'll be joining in with this big boys. This particular BBQ was an all-boy extravaganza, (except for Baby Gracie, who was quietly sleeping or nursing, and who won't be splashing like a boy even when she is two years old). More photos are here.

smiley guy
This very well might be my favorite Finn photo ever. This is a still from a movie I took of him on his swing in the backyard. (Remember when he loved his indoor swing?) Unfortunately, due to technical difficulities, I can't export the movie to the site. But you'll just have to trust me when I say that this photograph merely scrapes the surface of the cuteness he had to offer that day.

all better
Poor Finn had his first real bout with sickness this weekend. Although he seemed fine early Sunday, by lunch, he was barfing all over the place. And I do mean ALL over the place. Poor guy just snuggled with us on the couch and watched TV in his jammies. (The best known treatment for the flu.) But today, he was feeling much better, rousing us with his own version of reveille early this morning, demanding milk. This belly's back in business.

warning: this gets pretty geeky
So, my birthday present from Shawn was dinner out at a great place in Chicago (not geeky) and tickets to the NPR quiz show Wait Wait, Don't Tell Me (totally geeky, but also awesome). I listen to this show religiously and (now, this is over-the-top geeky) download the podcast and take it with me on the run.
The show was a ton of fun, and here you can see me with media gadfly Mo Rocca (degrees of separation to Jon Stewart = 1) and NPR icon Carl Kasell. Because if you can't get Carl Kasell's voice on your home answering machine, at least get a photo with him when you can.

Stop. Hammer time.
Finn is in this crazy stage of growth where he is way too tall for pants for boys his age, but not quite big enough for the 12-month-old size. (And let me state the obvious when I say that it's not the Baggerman genes that are growing those long legs.) Lees brought over a huge bag of Max and Owen's old clothes for Finn to wear. Despite the fact that I tempt Lees with Finn's luscious babyness, she has decided that she's done--two little dudes are more than enough for her.
Here's Finn sporting some of his inherited pants, looking a little like MC Hammer.

what the hail?
I had totally forgotten about the schitzophrenic Midwestern Spring weather. That happens when you've lived in a place for eight years where the weather is pretty much 65-70° and sunny year-round. Except the winter, when the worst Mother Nature has to offer is a week of rain.
This morning, when I dropped Finn off at daycare, it was 70 degrees and there was not a cloud in the sky. By the time I picked him up this afternoon, I heard what sounded like rocks hitting the window, looked outside, and hail the size of quarters was raining down everywhere.
It was actually kind of exciting, but I'm sure it will get old. Like when it's 95 degrees and humid this summer and the Bay Area is 65-70°.

unexpected kisses
One of Finn's recent milestones is that he is able to sit up all by himself, only occasionally tipping over like a faulty Weeble. I was trying to capture him in all of his sittin' glory, when the ultimate camera hog crashed the scene for some photogenic kisses.
Santos has been quite the gentleman with his younger brother. Finn is absolutely entranced by him, and loves to pat his fur and especially watch his wagging tail. When Samira brought her dog over last week, Santos stood between Kaia and Finn, preventing her from getting too close to the baby. And any time Finn gets too rough, Santos sighs and gets up and walks away. They are quite the interspecies twosome.

cookie monster
Finn has discovered that one of the advantages of teeth is that they can be used to eat even more things, like this here cookie. Here, he test drives that new tooth with new vigor.
Many changes since we last faithfully blogged. Beyond the obvious geographic change, there are:
* Finn's new teeth
* Finn's wailing about the new teeth
* Finn waking up in the middle of the night to scream and alert the world to his new teeth
* A possible crush on his adorable babysitter (the only one who could distract him from the teeth)
It's back to work for me, but more soon!

ready for his close-up
Much, much to write about as we are finally getting settled and moved into our place. However, forces are conspiring against keeping the blog current, including this site's fussy muse. Finn is cutting two teeth right now, and despite the fact that our pediatrician said that teething is a "myth," has been howling for the past hour and rubbing everything he can grab (including the dog's tail) on his gums. Finn rose at 5:15am today, and it wasn't just to wish me a Happy Birthday.
The best birthday present so far has been from the clerk at Jewel this weekend who, when confronted with my order of baby food, cleaning supplies, trash bags, and a bottle of wine, sternly carded me. Apparently, 35 is the new 20. Thanks, Jewel cashier!

awww yeeeeeeah
Finn's back, y'all. I've finally found my battery charger and camera cable--I hereby pledge to you, my dear readers, not to deprive you of your daily dose of cuteness for such an extended period again. More soon.
Happy Mother's Day!

Move That Baby!
Allow me, hon. Here's a photo of Finn, as soon as the movers unloaded him. Thank goodness that tracking sticker stayed on... --> ShawnPosted by shawn at 01:37 PM | Comments (0)

bear with me, Finnatics...
I have received many emails from frustrated readers just like you, wondering where the heck Finn is and why there hasn't been a new photo in weeks. Unfortunately, I can't find my camera's battery charger in any of the half-opened boxes that dot the new house. It's also possible that the charger was in one box that we think got lost in the transition. (Everything lost from now on will probably be blamed on that one missing box.) Anyway, I will probably go to Best Buy today to buy a new charger so you can see Finn in all his tubby glory once again. He's eight months old now! You wouldn't believe how large this guy is. And did I mention he is regularly sleeping 12 straight hours at a time? This is so not the kid he was months ago.

my blogging knows no bounds
Parent Hacks is featuring some of my wisdom gleaned from hours of nonstop nursing in Finn's early days. Let's just say I had a lot of time to think of ways to carry on whilst nursing.

Welcome, Grace Kathryn Weir!
This post is belated due to the fact that I have not had Internet access on my laptop for nearly three weeks. (The horror!) Without further ado, meet Grace Kathryn, born to Amy and Steve (although I understand Amy did most of the work) April 21st. A wee one, she was a dainty 6lbs. 13oz. at birth.
We met last week in person and she is just lovely, with a shock of fuzzy black hair and a gorgeous, peaceful face. Since Amy is my unofficial sister, that makes Grace Finn's unofficial cousin. Which means she will not be one of Finn's many prom dates.
