"out like a lamb", my butt...
Unfortunately, March is not going out like a lamb at all, but rather as a petulant lioness.
No snow, thank heavens, just crazy rain. Progress. But still, I couldn't help illustrating this post with an adorable pink-cheeked Finn from Easter.

Visit Needlespace!
My very talented mother-in-law, Irene, just launched a Web site that sells her fiber wares. She knits really adorable cell phone bags, hats, and bags. Check it out--needlespace.net. She's got some gorgeous work, and something that's perfect for just about anyone, male or female, adult or child. They make great gifts!
Let me just say that as the owner of a brand new iPhone (holla!) the cell-phone cozies are to die for. They keep my precious little baby new phone safe, warm, protected, and looking snazzy.
Site design by the gifted designers at Hazen Creative, Inc. Not to be confused with Lisa Hazen Design & Editorial.

Goodbye to Natalie!
Finn's wonderful caregiver, Natalie, is leaving Chicago to return to Peru after four lovely months with us. We are going to miss her so much. And not just because Finn has such a crazy crush on her. (He's so obvious with his crushes!) She was such a ray of light every day she was at Finn's daycare.
She's returning to Peru to finish her law degree and speak one of the three different languages she is fluent in and pretty much just be 23 years old, pretty, smart, and totally awesome. We're just lucky she was with us for the Winter!
Here are some photos Shawn recently took of the daycare kids that we used to put together an album for her. These little faces are going to miss her so much, as will their parents.

Spring is here!

Gettin' Ready for the Easter Bunny
Under Finn's careful art direction, we spent the afternoon dyeing eggs--and fingers and the kitchen table.Posted by shawn at 12:30 PM | Comments (0)

the historic post in which I allow photographs of myself in a bathing suit online
We are officially Midwestern Parents now, as we took an overnight trip to the new waterpark in Gurnee, IL. I must truly be getting older because I think I was looking forward to it as much as Finn. Which was a lot. He seriously asked every ten minutes "Are we going to the waterpark yet? How about now?"
The place was brand-new and designed like a destination for the future patrons of Vegas. Everything was included in the resort, including water slides, a wave pool, video games, wandering magicians, restaurants with buffets, etc. The only thing missing was strippers. (Kidding, Mom!)
Despite the fact that Jimmy Buffet and Huey Lewis were piped in every room (and on repeat), it really was fun. You couldn't make a scene if you tried. The place was designed to just make kids happy, and mission accomplished there.
Amy, Steve, Gracie, and Ellie met us there, too. Finn and Gracie were totally flirting the whole time. He would show off for her, and she would follow him everywhere he went. Then she would hug him very tightly, and he would act like he was too cool for that. Because he is, you know, eight months older than she is. (Photos of those two honeys in the next batch.)
It was exhausting, though. The awesomeness of the experience kind of blew the kids' minds the first day, so Sunday we both needed to leave early due to being overwhelmed and melting down. But I know we'll be back. As Steve said, we have many more of these vacations in our future!

Lucky Irish Wishes to All...
Is it just me, or is this leprechaun that Finn colored in his toddler class a dead ringer for Dennis Kuchinch? A tiny, idealistic leprechaun with an impossibly hot wife?
In honor of St. Patrick's Day, I'd like to share the following adorable story from my friend, Melissa's son, Sam:
While driving to school, Sam asked, "Mom, on St. Patrick's Day if the beaver comes out of his hole and sees his shadow does that mean more winter or spring is on it's way?"
Correct response: It will be spring if he doesn't see his shadow and he is wearing a green shamrock vest.
Here's hoping for the green shamrock vest.

march forth on 3/4
What can I say? The kid is pretty obsessed with this election, too.
UPDATE: This just in from Kimberly, the Sexy Artist in Cincinnati.
Just got back from rocking my vote. The line was long and people passed time by introducing themselves to each other and comparing street addresses. Of course I was dying to ask everybody in the room, so who gets your vote?! But everyone seemed engaged only in polite chit-chat.
When I got up to the sign-in table, the volunteer was asking me stuff like "issues only" ballot? I said I was registered as an independent. So she asked some more confusing (to me) questions. I finally said, " I REALLY want Obama to win. So how can I help make that happen?" The whole room started laughing and cheering "woo-hoo". It was really funny.

Like Mother, Like Son
Has there ever been a better television show than Arrested Development? I still haven't been able to get over its cancellation, but maybe it's because as a white person, this is a site that I am pre-programmed to like.
My two favorite characters are Lucielle, the Bluth matriarch, and Buster, her doting adult son. Are Finn and I mere years away from dressing in matching sailor suits and posing for Balboa Bay Window magazine? I wouldn't rule it out. We're mighty attached these days.
