Somehow, someway, he keeps coming up with funky new stuff, like every single day*
I've been meaning to write up a long tribute to Finnie on the occasion of his third birthday, but work and my own pregnancy-addled sluggishness have conspired against me. Let's just say that Finn's doing just fine, thank you. I had this moment of total pride when I took him to his three-year appointment last week. He had not been to the doctor for six months, and they are checking for all kinds of milestones.
As the doctor asked me how language development was coming along, Finn busted out some kind of paragraph about whether the poster on the wall was a walrus or a seal and how can you tell the difference? And then she asked me if he could count to ten tyet. And I was all like, "OK, do you want to hear that in Spanish or English? Because he can do both." I was probably totally annoying her by this point, because she then started directing her questions to him. She asked him how old she was, and he correctly replied that he was three, and next year he would be four. And would you like to know how many fingers that represents? There were more questions about colors and pedaling a bike and drawing a circle, which he totally aced. The doctor even praised him on how nobly he handled his shots and sent us home saying she wished all of her patients were as healthy and advanced as Finnie. (For the curious, he's currently 34 lbs., and 39 inches tall.)
One of the things I love the most about where Finn is developmentally right now is the pretend play. I took him to the park yesterday, and when he climbed down from the play structure, he told me that he had just run through the jungle, seen an alligator, and escaped down a waterslide. But I shouldn't worry, because he's OK. In this photo, he had drawn train tracks, and then played trains on top of them.
* Apologies to Snoop Dogg, whom I imagine had not yet been quoted on a mommy blog yet. Uncle Clintie will surely recognize this reference.
