here's our snowstorm
Before we moved to Chicago, everyone warned us gravely about the winter. Being from the Midwest, I knew what I was in for, but Shawn was blissfully ignorant. This winter has been surprisingly mild--even shockingly so. This time last month, I was walking around the neighborhood without a coat on. Mild January weather in Chicago? Paging Al Gore!
But here we are in mid-February, making up for lost time with a big-time, Chicago-grade snowstorm. Poor Santos got let out to relieve himself and was forgotten as I made breakfast. This is Santie when I rediscovered him, ears flat, snow accummulating on his head.

dogs love me 'cause I'm crazy sniffable
These two are ridiculous. I turn my head for one minute and they are loving all over each other.Posted by lisa at 06:17 PM | Comments (0)

if you can't beat 'em...
Having long ago surrendered hope that Finn would return home with any of our visitors, Santos has really gotten on the baby bandwagon lately. He follows us everywhere during the day, and I can't put Finn down without Santos showering him with kisses. Here's Santos snuggling up to Finn when I did laundry today. It's as if he knows that in a few months the boy will be eating food and dropping it down to him from the high chair.Posted by lisa at 06:35 PM | Comments (0)

the slackjaw is all Baggerman
So, I'm trying to document Finn's adorable "tummy time" when a wild beast swoops in to get into the picture. Luckily, all the beast demanded were kisses. This time.Posted by lisa at 09:21 PM | Comments (0)

puppy love
Finn loves to take in the world, stargazer style, from the vantage point of his moo cow blanket (a gift from Auntie Court). He coos when he looks in the mirror (even he thinks he's adorable!), when his favorite toy hangs overhead, or when that mysterious marauding beast that roams our house (Santos) comes to kiss his feet. And Santie is warming up to Finn, too. On a walk today, when a dog and its owner approached the stroller, Santos got inbetween the stroller and the dog, growling until it left. Santie walked between me and the stroller for the duration of the walk, at one point, looking up at me as if to say, "Listen, he may make a lot of noise, and he may take a lot of my attention. But this is my baby, too."

sizing up the new guy
Santos has decided that if he can't beat 'em, he'll join 'em. To demonstrate that he's on board with the new baby, he kisses Finn's toes and sits with me while I nurse. Santos' ears do go flat and he looks as if he would roll his eyes if he could when Finn starts crying, but you can only expect a spoiled dog to have so much patience with a newborn baby. For his part, Finn has taken a passing interest in his big, furry brother, but clearly, there is room for this relationship to grow. I predict this will happen right around the time Finn can pass food to Santos from the highchair.Posted by lisa at 12:21 PM | Comments (0) | TrackBack

Poor Santie
Unfortunately, our furry child is taking Finn's arrival pretty rough. Although he did manage to summon up some kisses for Finn's feet today, he really hasn't been himself. And even went on a hunger strike earlier last week.Posted by lisa at 10:51 AM | Comments (0) | TrackBack

So for now, we wait. Have I mentioned how very hot it has been here?Weird to be at the mercy of someone who hasn't even been born yet.

for now, we focus on our furry child
Santos is enjoying my maternity leave almost as much as I am--especially when it means I'm around all day and can spoil him by either laying on the couch all day or taking him on long (labor-inducing?) walks. Little does he know that these halcyon days must end. That shortly he will be relegated to permanent #2 status.Posted by lisa at 01:16 PM | Comments (0) | TrackBack
